In the early 1900s, it was the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco, bustlingwith the raw material of Wild West legends. Bibees infamous Brewery Gulch once supported 47 saloons and was considered the Liveliest spot between El Paso and San Francisco. By the 1970s, opportunists had relived Bisbees Mule Mountains of billions of pounds of copper, 102 million ounces of silver, 2.8 million ounces of gold, and millions of ounds of zinc, lead, and manganese. Antique stores, galleries, cafes, and restaurants replaced the saloons. These days, a vibrant and electric community of ranchers, politicians, and free spirits: a well-preserved architectural and historic heritage: and the most perfect year round climate make Bisbee, the county seat, a one-of-a-kind gem.

Nestled in a narrow gorge of the Mule Mountains of southeast Arizona, Bisbee represents many things to many people. To tourists it is a picturesque mining community with turn-of-the-century brick buildings lining two main streets, above wich stands adobe and frame miners cabins packed along rough, narrow streets, or perched on  stone reinforced terraces hacked into ochre-colored hillsides. To casual visitors it seems almost inconceivable that 10,000 people once lived on 660 acres of canyon land. They can, nonetheless, still feel the vitality which this boom town extruded in 1910.
